The action will continue supporting professionalization of the prison staff in working with violent extremist prisoners (VEPs), prisoners who are marginalised and vulnerable and as such at risk from radicalisation in prison. Specific tools (Screening to Signs of Radicalisation Tool and Risk and Needs Assessment Tool) as well as the Individual Rehabilitation Program aimed at VEPs, will be further improved and adapted to meet the needs and specificities of the Serbian penitentiary system and its end beneficiaries. Among the challenges of all penitentiary systems in the region, including the one in Serbia, are preparation for release of VEPs, multi-agency exchange of information in the pre-release and the post-release phase in a prisoner’s life. The action is planning to address these and other important issues through the activities at the regional dimension.
