Under this thematic area the action focuses on preparation for release and assistance to violent extremist prisoners (VEPs) upon their release from prison by providing forum to the Beneficiaries and relevant external stakeholders to share their experiences, good practices and lessons learnt. Based on the developed papers on good approaches, practices, identified weaknesses and lessons learnt a matrix with recommendations for unification of pre-release and post-penal assistance tools, structures and processes in the region will be developed.
For successful reintegration back into society it is important that the reintegration process starts as soon as the prisoner is imprisoned by following tailor made rehabilitation programme based on her/his identified risks and needs. The assessment of the risks and needs of each VEP should continue throughout the sentence. Multidisciplinary approach and continuous inter-institutional cooperation are important in order to enhance the prospectus for their successful reintegration back into society.
